ABOUT DORECO

Formalized through NEA Franchise Certificate No. 064, Davao Oriental Electric Cooperative, Inc. (DORECO) was registered under the National Electrification Administration (NEA) on December 30, 1977. DORECO is a non-stock, non-profit, non-sectarian, non-political, and service-oriented entity that is mandated to provide efficient electric distribution services in the Province of Davao Oriental.

DORECO was granted a legislative franchise to distribute power in the Province of Davao Oriental for fifty years. Expiring on August 13, 2030, the franchise covers the City of Mati as well as the Municipalities of Boston, Cateel, Baganga, Caraga, Manay, Tarragona, Lupon, Banaybanay, San Isidro, and Governor Generoso.

By 2030, DORECO envisions to be a highly-soaring and technically-equipped electric service provider in Davao Region. It specifically aims to improve the socio-economic landscape of the region through the production of sustainable power and delivery of excellent electric service.

DAVAO ORIENTAL PROFILE

The franchise area of DORECO is geographically located at the southeastern tip of the Mindanao Power Grid. The province has access to the Pacific Ocean in the East and access to the Davao Gulf and Celebes Sea in the south. It is also land-bounded in the north by Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur, while it is bounded in the west by Davao de Oro. See Figure 1.1 in the next page for the Mindanao Power Grid.

Spanning more than five thousand five hundred square kilometers, Davao Oriental is the largest province in Region XI accounting for more than 30% of Davao Region’s total land area. Twice as large as Davao City, the longitudinal geography of the province stretches for more than 180 kilometers from its common borders.

The province is topographically mountainous in terrain with plateaus, swamps, and lowlands unevenly distributed all over the land area. Davao Oriental is also heavily vegetated and more than 50% of its land area is descriptively classified as forestland. Davao Oriental predominantly experiences a wet season peaking during November to January. Its primary economic industry is agricultural production, providing more than 30% of the entire Davao Region’s coconut production.
